Hey I just bought a brand new mxj mc cast on my first outing with it the line wont come off the spool when it's in free unless I pull it off by hand the only way I was able to get the line to come off by itself was to back the drag off so much that in doing so when I set it to strike or even full for that matter I could easily pull it off by hand...also to note I had a 4oz jig on at the time so it should of came off easily...I since returned the reel but I want to know is that how the mc cast model works should I maybe go for the regular model or what other recommendations do you guys have for a nice conventional in the 250-300 price range...I am putting it on a 7'6" tica wreck series If you are just using this reel as a deep drop jigging reel you do not need the added cost of the magnetic brakes of the MC
